More about Mathew

Born and raised in Healdsburg, I am a math teacher and a wrestling coach at Healdsburg High School. Healdsburg is a special community. My family moved to Healdsburg in the 1990’s and found a great place to raise their children. Growing up with five siblings helped me learn selflessness and support for others. Education has always been a priority. I am proud to be first in my family to graduate from college. I was honored to graduate from University of California, Merced, where I earned a physics degree with a minor in education. I eventually returned home to become a much more active member of the community. For several years now I have volunteered across Sonoma County: the Healdsburg Museum, Redwood Empire Food Bank, Northwestern Pacific Historical Society, regional libraries, and more.

I have the practical skills, experience, and leadership to be an effective councilmember. I will advocate for a better standard of living for all residents and bring a fresh perspective on old and new issues. I am dedicated to ethical and transparent governance. I support local businesses. I live my values by shopping at local businesses, using public transit, and giving presentations to our community on important issues, such as transportation

On the city council I will bring expertise to planning, housing, and public transit decisions, as evidenced by my unanimous appointment to the SMART Station Area Committee. I am a leader in Climate Action Healdsburg, which works with the city on sustainability. I have experience cooperating with committee members, students, and academics to achieve goals.
